My beautiful, wise Ouma, (literal translation from Afrikaans means old mother), of the soft hands, transparent skin, and blue eyes, called me: “Kom, jou sago pudding is gereed,” (come, your sago pudding is ready). I can smell the warm jam and sweetness permeating the air, its all I can smell. I kick off my flip-flops, jump up, banging into the corner of the large table that dominates the entrance hall, filling it up three quarters full, the bruise is already rising…”I heard it through the grapevine” is playing on the radio…
